Course Description
This 20-hour training course introduces the principles and practices of mediation within the context of Child Protective Services (CPS). Designed for professional mediators who want to learn how to mediate CPS cases, this course aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to facilitate constructive dialogue and create resolutions in complex CPS cases.
Throughout the course, participants will explore the role of mediation in resolving conflicts and promoting collaboration among parties involved in CPS cases. This class is designed to assist the participants in understanding the processes of a CPS mediation and how to use the fundamental mediation techniques, such as effective communication, active listening, and problem-solving strategies tailored to the unique dynamics of CPS cases.
This course is 100% online via Zoom.
There are Five (5), four (4) hour course sessions planned. Each session must be conducted in order. Any preceding sessions that are not conducted by student must be completed before starting the next session.
CPS Mediator Course defines, examines, and demonstrates the process of mediation, as well as provides practical aspects of mediation. The course satisfies the requirements of the Texas ADR Statute (TEXAS CIVIL PRACTICE & REMEDIES CODE, CHAPTER 154. ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCEDURES; Acts 1987, 70th Le., ch. 1121, sec. 1, eff. June 20,
1987, as amended.)
Course Requirements
Students must have completed the 40 Hour Basic Mediation Course and the 30 Hour Advanced Family Mediation Course to meet the requirements to train as a CPS Mediator.
